Excerpt

I couldn’t help myself - I tried to run.

As useless as I knew it would be, and weak as my knees already were, panic took over and I bolted for the emergency door.

He was in front of me in a flash. I didn’t see if he used his hand or his foot, it was too fast. A crushing blow struck my chest -- I felt myself flying backward, and then heard the crunch as my head bashed into the mirrors. The glass buckled, some of the pieces shattering and splintering on the floor beside me.

I was too stunned to feel the pain. I couldn’t breathe yet.

He walked toward me slowly.

“That’s a very nice effect,” he said, examining the mess of glass, his voice friendly again. “I thought this room would be visually dramatic for my little film. That’s why I picked this place to meet you. It’s perfect, isn’t it?”

I ignored him, scrambling on my hand and knees, crawling toward the other door.

He was over me at once, his foot stepping down hard on my leg. I heard the sickening snap before I felt it. But then I did feel it, and I couldn’t hold back my scream of agony. I twisted up to reach for my leg, and he was standing over me, smiling.

“Would you like to rethink your last request?” he asked pleasantly. His toe nudged my broken leg and I heard a piercing scream. With a shock, I realized that it was mine.

Synopsis

Isabella Swan, preferred to be called Bella, is on her way to the airport to fly to the cold, little town of Forks, Washington. Not knowing what was in store for her, Bella wasn’t looking forward to the gloomy and rainy days that the state of Washington has. Bella is a junior in high school and on her first day in her new school she meets a few overly-friendly boys and a group of girls who welcome her into sitting with them at lunch.

While Bella is eating her lunch, her eyes are drawn to a group of people who seem to be different from the rest of the other students. She notices that they seemed to be glowing in beauty. These kids are the Cullens, three boys and two girls. Bella and Edward, the youngest of the Cullen family, soon become friends. As their friendship grows, they realize that they like each other.

After a short time, Bella learns that Edward and his family are vampires. Edward soon discovers that Bella appears to be a magnet for trouble. Edward finds that he has to do everything in his power to save her from anything that might hurt his one true love. He has been waiting an eternity to meet his soul mate, but is he the reason for all the trouble?

Twilight is the first book of four in the Twilight Saga written by Stephenie Meyer. The main characters are Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. They have to fight unfriendly vampires to keep Bella safe and alive. This book has the perfect balance between romance and action.

Review

When I first started to read Twilight, I didn’t really have an open mind. But once I read the first few pages, I was drawn in. I couldn’t put this book down. I love the way Stephenie Meyer describes the way Bella Swan sees her new world. I also love the way she describes how Bella feels about the changes that are going on in her life and how unfamiliar it all feels. This made me feel that I wished I were in the shoes of the Bella.

I was able to see the way a teenage girl goes through high school life and how she deals with friends and enemies. Twilight pulled me in and I never wanted to leave this fantasy world that Stephenie Meyer has created.

I know that I am not the only one to feel this way as Twilight has made for tons of people around the world fans of this book. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series, New Moon, and see what adventures Bella and Edward have.

I rate this book a 10 out of 10.
