Review

Yamoto goes over to Honaka's house to give her her birthday present. When he tells her that he lied about who he went going shopping with the other night, Honaka tells Yamato that she saw him with Asahina. She says that it is okay that Asahina helped him pick out her present. But then when Yamoto continues to talk about Asahina, Honaka give back the present without even opening it and goes back in the house. When Yamoto sees Honaka at the track, she tells him that she doesn't want to talk about it. Later that evening, Yamoto goes over to Honaka's house so they can get this problem resolved. They walk over to the shrine and she tells him that he is always so happy when he is with Asahina, or talks about her, so he must still like her. They mutually agree to break up and Yamoto heads home feeling rather glum. Honaka talks with her friend, Hana, but still feels bad because she thinks she may have really loved Yamoto. The next day at track practice, Honaka does not show up and everyone is mad at Yamoto for breaking up with her, although Kobayakawa is happy because he likes her. Asahina is upset with Yamoto because he told her that he broke up with Honaka because she was a "pain in the ass." He didn't want to tell Asahina that they broke up because of her. The next day, Honaka shows up at track practice and Yamoto and Kobayakawa learn that will be on the 100 meter relay team. At practice, because of everything that has been going on with Yamoto, he cannot seem to keep his mind on what he is doing and continually drops the baton. Hashiba tries to help Yamoto by talking to him after practice about Asahina. They also practice handing off the baton and Yamoto decides that he will talk to Asahina and tell her why he lied. Later, Yamoto apologizes to Asahina and tells her the truth about the breakup. He also tells her how much he hates fighting with her. With all that is going on, Yamoto finally decides to to give the track team his all and become the number one athlete in all of Japan. The only question is, can he do it?

There are also some sections in the book for: A) A Note from the Author, B) Honorifics Explained, C) Bonus Manga, D) Translation Notes, and E) Preview of Volume 8, although the preview appears in Japanese. The book reads from right to left and back to front, just like a book from Japan. This manga book is intended for Mature readers (18 and older) because of nudity, profanity and sexual content.

Suzuka: Volume 7 finally solves a problem I have had since Yamoto and Honaka started dating. They broke up, Hey, this book isn't about them as a couple, it should be about Yamoto and Asahina. Maybe Yamoto can now focus more on his track and can finally make his move on Asahina, although she will probably shoot him down again. I think that she is afraid of falling in love because the last guy she did fall in love with died. How? Not sure yet, but I am sure that we will find out someday. I am also happy that Yamoto is finally going to take track more seriously. I hope that we will be able to see how fast he can really run. The story in this volume is wonderful and I absolutely loved reading this manga book. Someday, I hope that Yamoto will be able to break through the walls that Asahina has thrown up around her heart. You cannot go though your entire life without loving someone. You also cannot live in fear, whish is what she is doing. It will eat you up inside, which is what is happening to Asahina. The Translation and Adaptation from Japanese to English is terrific. I love it when I can read one of these manga books and forget that it was not originally created in English. As for the artwork by Kouji Seo, it is spectacular. When I think of great manga art, I think of Kouji Seo. Overall, Suzuka: Volume 7 is a snappy manga book that kept me flipping the pages until I put it down with a smile of contentment on my face. Yamoto doesn't have Asahina yet, as she is still angry with him, but I think that there is hope for the future. Maybe we will find out in Suzuka: Volume 8. Man, I sure hope so.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.
