Review

Negi Springfield is an English teacher at the all girls Mahora School District Middle School in Japan even though he is only 10 years old. Negi and his students are still in Kyoto on a field trip. Asakura proposes a game for all of the girls one night called "Lip Scramble." The objective is to give Negi a kiss. This could mean a lot of probationary contracts. But what the girls don't know is that Negi has used his magic and made duplicates of himself and is not even in the building. Later, while visiting the main temple of the Kansai Magic Association with Asuna and Mini Setsuna, a tiny double in charge of communication, they find themselves trapped in a never-ending corridor. Soon, they are attacked by Onmyou, a sorcerer and his spider demon. After a long evenly-matched battle, Onmyou uses his powers to transform into a beast. Realizing that they may be in trouble, Negi brings the full force of his magic to fruition. Meanwhile, Setsuna and Konoka, a princess, have dressed up as a samurai and a woman in a kimono in Cinema Village. There, they are beset by a female sorcerer who wants Konoka so she can settle a debt. Setsuna swears that she will protect the princess with her life. Thus, the battle begins . . .

Negima!: Magister Negi Magi is a highly entertaining manga series. In fact, it is one of the best ones out there and is in my top three favorite manga series. The action is fast and furious and there is always a lot of fun to be had. What makes the books so good is that is is always highly entertaining. I had a very hard time putting this book down, especially when there were battles going on. I was disappointed to find that Peter David was no longer doing the adapting of the story, but I found that Douglas Varenas seemed to do a fine job. I really enjoyed the new sorcerers that attacked Negi and Setsuna. Personally, being a huge fan of Fantasy novels, the big magical battles are something I highly relish. Of course, the artwork is still excellent and the storyline is both exciting and chocked full of amusing circumstances. Overall, Negima!: Magister Negi Magi - Volume 5 is another excellent book in this wonderful manga series that should not be missed by anyone. I can't wait to see how the field trip continues in Negima!: Magister Negi Magi - Volume 6. Maybe Negi Springfield will finally find his father.

I rated this book a 9½ out of 10.
