Negi
Springfield, at 10 years old boy, has just graduated from sorcerer
school. His new job is to teach English to middle school students in the
Mahora School District in Japan, although it is not the position he was
hoping to get. The school is an all girls school and
his class consists of 31 students. Asuna Kagurazaka is a loud and brash
girl who has a crush on Takahata, and older teacher at the school.
Negi's advisor is the very voluptuous Shizuna who helps him out in any
way she can. Because they are short of
space in the school, Negi is assigned to bunk with Asuna, who, of
course, does not like this idea at all. All of the girls in the class
think Negi is cute, except for Asuna. All Negi wants to do is help Asuna
out, but he only seems to cause trouble, whether he is using his magic
or not. Asuna sees him using magic and convinced Negi to help her win
the love of Takahata, but nothing ever seems to go as planned. Then, to
stir up a little trouble, the high school dodge ball team wants their
old stomping grounds back and the middle school girls decide that there
is NO WAY they are giving up there own court. Balls will be flying . . .
Negima!: Magister Negi Magi
- Volume 1 is
a manga book written and drawn by Ken Akamatsu. This collection of six
periods (chapters 1 - 6) was translated by Hajime Honda and adapted by
Peter David (one of my favorite comic book writers) and Kathleen O'Shea
David. This book contains the following periods: 1) The Kid Instructor
is a Magician!, 2) Panic in the Library!?, 3) Bathhouse Rub, 4) The
Dreaded Afterschool Session!, 5) Super Dodge Ball Competition!! Go Girls
(Part I), and 6) Super Dodge Ball Competition!! Go Girls (Part II). There
is also some information About the Creator, Character Sketches,
Translation Notes, Honorifics Explained, and a Preview of Volume 2,
although the preview is in Japanese. The book reads from right to left
and back to front, just like a book from Japan. This manga book is
intended for readers ages 16 and up.
This manga
book has it all: action, comedy, fun and adventure. There are a lot of
characters to learn, as there are quite a few girls in the classroom.
Ken Akamatsu has created an enjoyable book for any lover of manga. The
artwork is excellent and the translation is perfect. Never have I read a
manga book that flows in dialog so well as does Negima!: Magister Negi Magi
- Volume 1.
I loved all of the characters in this book and the funny situations that
Negi and Asuna find themselves in. It always make me laugh when Negi
sneezes and blows the clothing off of the girls, especially Asuna. I
guess he has a pretty powerful, magical sneeze. Overall, I found that I
highly enjoyed this manga book and can't wait to see what trouble is
stirred up in Negima!: Magister Negi Magi
- Volume 2.
I rated
this book an 8 out of 10. |
