Bloody Mary, Anyone?

"If everybody here is a vampire," Guido said, ignoring Skeeve's warning, "how do they find anybody to bite for blood?"

"As far as I can tell," Massha answered, also choosing to overlook the gag order, "they buy it by the bottle."

She pointed to a small group of vampires sitting on a low wall merrily passing a bottle of red liquid back and forth among themselves. Despite Skeeve's knowledge of the area, he had subconsciously assumed they were drinking wine. Confronted by the inescapable logic that the stuff they were drinking was typed, not aged, his stomach did a fast roll and dip to the right.

Synopsis

Skeeve and Aahz now reside at the bazaar on Deva. On the outside, their tent looks like any other small tent, but upon entering, they live inside a huge castle. How? The entrance is in one dimension, while the rest of the place is in another.

Three people wish to see Skeeve, and disappear through a hidden door in the reception room into an unexplored dimension before Aahz has a chance to meet with them. Four members of the Devan Chamber of Commerce appear and insist to be paid the money that the three fugitives took, or return the fugitives.

Aahz, being the greedy Pervect that he is, wouldn't ever think of giving any money away, decides that they will bring back the fugitives. He knocks Skeeve out and journeys into the unknown dimension. After Skeeve awakens, with a headache, there is a knock on that same mysterious door. It is a beautiful girl and she informs Skeeve that his apprentice, Aahz, has been captured.

He is to stand trial for murder. Skeeve gathers his real apprentice, Massha, and one of his mob-connected bodyguards, Guido, and set out to find him in this dimension of vampires and no magic.

Myth-ing Persons is the fifth book of the Myth Adventures series by Robert Asprin. These books are incredibly funny fantasy tales that revolve around the lives of Skeeve and Aahz. The story moves along at a very fast pace with almost all of it written as dialog between the characters...and the dialog is quick and witty. This story mostly centers around Skeeve, Massha and Guido.

Review

I love the Myth books. They always make me laugh. There just is not a whole lot of funny fantasy out there. Reading about the adventures of Skeeve and Aahz always keep me entertained.

Myth-ing Persons moves a little slower that the previous four. I also find that the story was not as involving as the other. But that is not to say that it was bad. On the contrary, it is still a fun read. It just isn't fantastic. If you have read the other four books, then you cannot pass this one up.

Like all of the other books, the story is not very long, and you can usually polish it off rather quickly.

Overall, Myth-ing Persons is a great story that you will really enjoy. I just love Skeeve and Aahz.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.
