Writing and Magic
Skeeve,
magician extraordinaire, and his apprentice Massha were sauntering their
way through the Bazaar at Diva. Markie, the little girl a gambler has
left with Skeeve as a "marker" after a game of dragon poker,
was in a nearby tent, trying on some clothes with Bunny, another female
member of Skeeve's retinue.
"Hasn't
Markie been well-behaved?" Skeeve asked Massha. "She said she
was in the third grade of Elementary School, even though she calls it
Elemental School..."
"ELEMENTAL
SCHOOL!" Massha gasped in horror. "We've got to get her back
home...QUICK!"
Just then,
Markie was kicked out of the tent by its owner. Markie stared at the
tent--and suddenly dozens of booths were destroyed by a powerful wind.
"Markie
blew her cork and summoned up an air elemental, like you learn to do at Elemental
School," Massha said grimly . . .

Synopsis |
|
Skeeve is invited to a game
of dragon poker by the Geek. After cleaning house, and not knowing what
he is doing, he accepts the marker of another gambler. But in this case,
the marker is the daughter of the gambler, a nine year-old girl named
Markie. When Skeeve returns home with Markie, Don Bruce, the Mob's fairy
godfather, gives Skeeve a moll named Bunny because of the wonderful job
he has been doing.
Word gets around the bazaar at Diva, and the dragon
poker champion, the Kid, challenges Skeeve to a match. And if all of
this isn't enough trouble, a bunch of envious magicians have hired the
Axe to perform a character assassination on Skeeve.
Little
Myth Marker is the sixth book of the Myth
Adventures series by Robert Asprin. These books are incredibly funny fantasy tales that revolve
around the lives of Skeeve and Aahz. The story moves along at a very
fast pace with almost all of it written as dialog between the
characters…and the dialog is quick and witty. Only one new character
is introduced in this book, Bunny. She is Don Bruce's niece, and plays
Skeeve's moll. The introduction of
Bunny into the mix is a nice addition.

Review |
|
There is one thing that I
love about Myth books, they always bring a smile to my face. Little
Myth Marker,
although not as funny as the previous books, is still a lot of fun to
read. This is a quick reads, being both short in pages, like all the
Myth books, and containing fast dialog. This is the type of book that I
like reading to get away from all those serious science fiction and
fantasy stories.
This book makes me relax and have some fun. I always
look forward to reading a Myth book, and this one does not disappoint.
If you want to read a funny series, read all of the Myth books. If you
haven't read any, pick of the first one, Another
Fine Myth. You can read this book without having ready the others,
you just won't have the history.
But if you have read the first five,
and liked the series as much as I do, you will enjoy Little
Myth Marker.
I rated this book an 7½ out
of 10. |
