A Toast in the Gloom

”Gentlemen,” said Skeeve disguised as King Rodrick, “what are your opinions of my bride-to-be?”

”The words ‘cold-blooded’ and ‘ruthless’ come to mind,” the general said, “and that’s the impression of a man who’s made a career of the carnage of war.”

”I’m sure that the rumors that she murdered her father are exaggerated,” Grimble argued weakly . . .

Synopsis

Skeeve reluctantly disagrees and soon finds that he having quite a good time ruling. But near the end of the day he learns that the king’s soon-to-be wife is on her way over. Skeeve realizes that Rodrick has run away and is not coming back. Then, to make things worse, the Mob shows up demanding to know what happened to their army a few years back, see Myth Conceptions.

Hit or Myth is the fourth book of the Myth Adventures series by Robert Asprin. It takes place about a year after Myth Directions. Like all of the other books in this series, it is a funny fantasy tale that revolves around Skeeve finally growing up some and learning to survive as a magician without the help of Aahz. Oh…don’t worry all you Aahz fans…he reappears.

Review

Hit or Myth is one of my favorite series to read over and over . . . and this book does not let you down. Yes, Aahz isn’t around for about half of the story, but he really isn’t missed. Well…maybe a little. T

he usual supporting characters show up later in the story when Skeeve has to travel to Diva. As for the story, it is a great and quick read. None of these stories are very long, but that is quite all right.

If you pick up Hit or Myth, I know that you will enjoy it . . . as long as you like to smile.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.
