Synopsis

King Ethelbert of Portocristo is a little tyrant. This six-year old king is spoiled rotten and is used to getting everything his heart desires. Not only is little tyrant spoiled, he is grouchy, whiny, demanding, and extremely self-centered. So imagine his surprise when things don't always go the way he expects. For instance, he is transported back in time to the age of the dinosaurs, his new bodyguard is never lets him have a moment to himself, he kicks Santa Claus in the rear end (never a good thing), he needs a mascot to join the great car race (and his mascot is not very good), he finds out that making duplicates of himself does not turn out the way he expected, a treasure hunt for his dead aunt's gold against his rich cousin Sigismund ends strangely, an enlarging machine goes haywire, and so much more. It is one adventure after another in Portocristo with King Ethelbert, and you won't believe what happens.

Tiny Tyrant by Lewis Trondheim and Fabrice Parme is a graphic novel starring the troublesome young ruler from Portocristo, King Ethelbert. This book was translated from French to English by Alexis Siegel.  This book is intended for children ages 8 and up, but I highly recommended for readers of all ages.

Review

Tiny Tyrant is a collection of 12 short stories about the funniest little ruler around. Right from the first page, I was enraptured by the story and amazed by the artwork. I laughed out loud at the mischief King Ethelbert finds himself in so many times and couldn't wait to read more . . . and more . . . and more. Darn it, I want more stories about this mischievous character right now! Humph . . . no one seems to be listening.

Anyway, the artwork reminded me greatly of a mix between the cartoons of The Pink Panther and The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show from the 1960's. It is just extraordinary!

This utterly fantastic graphic novel should be on everyone's list, especially if you love comic geniuses like Calvin & Hobbes. Boy, wouldn't it be funny if Calvin and Etherbert ever met? The world would be doomed, I tell you.

So, if you are looking for a great time and a book you will always treasure, pick up a copy of Tiny Tyrant today. You will absolutely love it! I know I did.

I rated this book a 10 out of 10.
