Synopsis

With the Read-A-Thon approaching quickly, Dee and the rest of the Breakfast Club pay a visit to the library. The librarians are hard at work at setting up the Book Fair and tell the kids to come back tomorrow. After everyone leaves, the librarians gather to talk about what they are planning. And what they are planning is not good.

The Breakfast Club, suspecting something is up with the high strung librarians, peep in through a window and observe the meeting of the League of Librarians. What they hear makes them run to the Lunch Lady and Betty and they tell the food-serving superheroes what they have heard.

Hector and Terrence are excited because the new gaming console, the X-Station 5000, is coming out in a few days. They cannot wait to play some new games.

Lunch Lady and Betty don't really think that the librarians are up to anything until they watch back the tape from a camera they secretly installed in the Book Fair. They notice that a public librarian, Vivian Bookwormer, was at the book fair helping out. Lunch Lady goes to the public librarian and confronts Vivian Bookwormer, who confirms her fears that something menacing is going on. The League of Librarians is is plotting to take over the world and their first step is to destroy all of the next X-Station 5000s.

Lunch Lady and Betty realize that they must stop the League of Librarians at any cost and put a stop to their evil plans.

Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians is the second book in the Lunch Lady series and is written and drawn by Jarrett J. Krosoczka. This humorous book is a graphic novel about a lunch lady at an elementary school fighting crime. This book is intended for girls ages 7 to 10.

Review

Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians is another fun graphic novel for early chapter readers that kids will really enjoy. Lunch Lady and Betty are quite funny, although they don't meant to be, and the inventions they come up with to help them fight crime are hilarious. They have inventions like Sonic-Boom Juice Boxes, Hover Pizzas, Linguini Lassos, Smoke Can of Peas, Electronic Bananarang, and Taco-vision Night Goggles.

Kids will instantly bond with the Breakfast Club members. Dee, Hector and Terrence are all highly likable characters. Dee loves to read while the boys love to play video games.

If your child doesn't like reading early chapter books, have them try a graphic novel, like this one. As long as they get bitten by the reading bug, it doesn't matter what type of book it is. Eventually, they will move on to harder books to read, as my daughter did. Lunch Lady books are a great place to start. Don't forget Babymouse books too.

Jarrett J. Krosoczka has written and drawn another really fun book in Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians that early chapter readers will really gobble up. It's deliciously fun.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.
