Synopsis

Lewis Scribson, the author of the Flippy Bunny books, is paying a visit to the elementary school. Hector is excited because he used to be a big fan of the Flippy Bunny books and brought a tattered copy of one of his books for the author to sign. Meanwhile, Dee convinces Terrence to try out for the school soccer team, but he is unsure.

While Lewis Scribson is setting up his display table in the gym, Coach Birkby introduces himself to the author, who already seems to know his name. Later, when Hector presents his worn copy of his Flippy Bunny book to the author to sign, Lewis Scribson tells Hector that he doesn't sign books with ripped covers. Hector is disappointed.

The next day, the kids tell Lunch Lady that soccer tryouts were cancelled because Coach Birkby never showed up. Lunch Lady and Betty head down to the Boiler Room to figure out what is going on. There, Betty shows Lunch Lady her newest invention: Hamburger Headphones.

Upon returning to the cafeteria, Lunch Lady finds the pen the author dropped the day before. She decides to return the pen to Lewis Scribson's house. She hands the pen to Mr. Scribson's butler who shuts the door in her face. Betty calls Lunch Lady back to the Boiler Room because she had discovered that gym teachers have been disappearing from all the schools that Lewis Scribson has visited. When Lunch Lady looks at the pictures of missing teachers, she realizes that the Scribson's butler is one of the gym teachers that has disappeared.

That night, Lunch Lady and Betty return to Lewis Scribson's house to see if Coach Birkby is being held captive there. When they arrive at the house, they witness Dee, Hector, and Terrence marching toward the front door of the house with Hector's Flippy Bunny book. Lunch Lady realizes that she must act now before something bad happens to the kids.

Lunch Lady and the Author Visit Vendetta is the third book in the Lunch Lady series and is written and drawn by Jarrett J. Krosoczka. This humorous book is a graphic novel about a lunch lady at an elementary school fighting crime. This book is intended for girls ages 7 to 10.

Review

Lunch Lady and the Author Visit Vendetta is another fun early chapter graphic novel that will keep kids reading until they find out how Lunch Lady solves the newest mystery. In this book, a famous author is visiting the school. Because of his traumatized childhood in gym class, the author is kidnapping gym teachers and brainwashing them so they become his servants in his house. After the gym teacher disappears from her school, Lunch Lady and Betty swing into action.

Once again, Lunch Lady and Betty must use their food-like inventions to save the day. This time, Dee, Terrence, and Hector have no idea what is happening in their school and actually cause more problems than help. When Lunch Lady sees that they might be walking into danger, she knows that she must do something, and do something quickly.

As for the villain, the author of the Flippy Bunny children books, I would hope that someone who writes books for kids would be a little nicer than Lewis Scribson. He wouldn't even sign the copy of one of his books because it had a torn cover. Really? That is not a guy who loved his reading audience.

Jarrett J. Krosoczka has written and drawn his third Lunch Lady book in Lunch Lady and the Author Visit Vendetta. His drawing style is fairly simple and only one color is used in this book: yellow. The only thing I can really say about his drawing is that the artist should not draw dogs. Lewis Scribson has some guard dogs on the property that chase Dee, Terrence, and Hector. The dogs look horrible. Other than that, the artwork was fine.

Overall, Lunch Lady and the Author Visit Vendetta is another fun book that kids in elementary school should really enjoy. This book will leave young readers hungry for more.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.
