Synopsis

Babymouse admits that school is not a very romantic place. But when she looked at the calendar, she noticed that Valentine's Day was right around the corner and she became very excited. The day gets worse as every possible bad thing that could happen to Babymouse does. Then to top it off, she finds out that there is a Valentine's Day Dance. She waits and waits and waits. While all of her friends are asked to to go to the dance, she isn't. So, what is a girl to do? She buys some self-help books, but they don't work either.

The next day, her friend gives her the idea for her to ask a boy out to the dance. Babymouse is nervous, but when she asks the first out, he is already going with someone. Then she asks a lot out . . . no takers. So her mom suggests that she go alone to the dance. But when Babymouse gets there, everyone is paired up. Will anyone ask poor Babymouse to dance?

Babymouse: Heartbreaker is the fifth book in the Babymouse series and is written and drawn by sister and brother team Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm. This humorous book is a graphic novel about a young mouse and her and her ability to cope with everyday situations. This book is intended for girls ages 6 to 10.

Review

I love Babymouse! Yes, even though I am not in the target audience (not even close), I think Babymouse is the funniest little girl in books today, even though she is a mouse. She is a daydreamer, and aren't we all? We all want the best of things, and it is a lot of fun to watch Babymouse's daydreams.

As for poor Babymouse falling in love, well, we all know she is too young for that. But she does dream of meeting her prince and having him sweep her off her feet. What girl doesn't want that? But the reality of the situation is that there are very few princes out there, and that is what Babymouse learns.

Once again, the story is fantastic and the artwork is perfect. I love the sister and brother team of Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm. They are absolutely wonderful.

Overall, Babymouse: Heartbreaker is a wonderfully funny and entertaining book and an excellent addition to an already fantastic series. Boy, oh boy, I can't wait to see what kind of trouble Babymouse gets into out in the woods in Camp Babymouse. I hope she doesn't get eaten by a bear. Yikes!

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.
