Calvin and Hobbes comic strip

Synopsis

Weirdos From Another Planet by Bill Watterson is a collection of Calvin and Hobbes comic strips.

This collection contains the following storylines: Rosalyn!, Calvin the Tiger, Phantom Jet Model Airplane, Calvin the Paleontologist, Broken Binoculars, Going Camping, Balloon Ride, Calvin's First Trip to the Zoo, Calvin the Plumber, Calvin on Mars, Sick Calvin, and Introducing Stupendous Man.

Calvin and Hobbes became very popular in the mid-1980's, and continued into the 1990's, until Bill Watterson decided that he was going to retire the comic strip. It was seen daily in hundred of newspapers and enjoyed by millions. Calvin is a quirky 6 years old boy who has a pet stuffed animal tiger names Hobbes. But to Calvin, Hobbes is alive. Together, they constantly get into mischief. Hobbes often acts as Calvin’s conscious, but being a tiger, he also acts upon his whims. Calvin’s parents can also be quite funny. Calvin always seems to be testing his mother. And Calvin’s father’s explanations of how things work are always hilarious. And then there is Calvin’s arch nemesis, Susie. Usually innocent of all wrongdoing, Calvin loves to harass her. But she always beats Calvin in the end.

Review

I took over a year break from reading these Calvin and Hobbes collection books, but now I sure am glad I picked up this one. Calvin never fails to make me smile, or even to laugh out loud.

I always found it a shame that Bill Watterson decided to discontinue this comic strip. He never marketed Calvin, so the only time ever see him anymore is on the back of vehicles peeing on another brand of vehicle or praying in front of a cross. I find it humorous the extremes of the two stickers.

That aside, Calvin and Hobbes, in my estimation, is the best comic strip ever written. The trouble Calvin gets in just tickles my funny bone.

So, if you are looking for a good time, call Calvin. He knows what to do.
