Synopsis

Asahina is upset because she is struggling with her feelings toward Yamoto. She doesn't feel like she has closure with the death of her previous boyfriend. She tells Yamoto that she is going to visit the gravesite of Tsuda and that she would like Yamoto to come along.

At Tsuda's gravesite, she admits to Tsuda's headstone that she is in love with someone else. Yamoto hears this and hopes that it is him that Asahina is in love with. After paying her respects, Asahina finally feels like she has closure and can move on.

The next day, on the way to school, Yamoto and Asahina hold hands. This is noticed by some other students and word starts to get around that these two are dating. This news hits Honaka hard, and she wonders how she will be able to coach these two at track practice. When Nana calls Honaka on the phone and tells her that some people want her to pose again because of the last photo shoot, Honaka steps down as track coach to devote her time to being a model . . . since having Yamoto again as a boyfriend is not longer an option.

To help Asahina with the upcoming Kanto District Championship, Yamoto hops on the train to Tokyo and returns just before the track meet. He is not racing today, so he went to Tokyo and bought Asahina a good luck charm. Unfortunately for him, he bought the wrong good luck charm. Still, Asahina is touched by his gesture.

Yamoto decides, since they are dating, that he wants to call Asahina by her first name, which is Suzuka. He tries and tries, and finally blurts it out. Then he apologizes and says that he just cannot call Asahina by her first name. Asahina liked it when he called her Suzuka, but Yamoto doesn't hear her say so.

Review

Suzuka: Volume 9 is another wonderful addition to the Suzuka series by Kouji Seo. Finally, we get to see these two lovebirds together . . . sort of. Asahina doesn't seem to want anybody at school to know while Yamoto only want to spend time with her.

Asahina needs to learn how to relax. She is always exploding and yelling a poor Yamoto. He only tries to help her and is always being very nice to her. Asahina's reaction are always over the top. Man, she is wound tighter than a spring that is about to burst. She just needs to calm down and live life without yelling at the one boy that really loves her. Heck, I don't care how pretty a girl is, if she were to treat me like that, I would drop her like a hot potato. I guess Yamoto is a better man than I am to put up with all that stuff.

The artwork and storyline by Kouji Seo are both terrific. I didn't really care about the two extra stories at the end of the book. I would have rather had more of the main storyline.

The translation and adaptation by David Ury is pretty good. There weren't too many goof ups in the translation. Overall, the dialog flowed very well.

I am always excited to sit down and read a Suzuka book. The stories are always fun and the characters are very entertaining. I am happy that Yamoto and Asahina are finally a couple, although they don't really act like it yet. Maybe someday Asahina will be a little more patient with Yamoto and treat him with the respect he deserves.

Overall, Suzuka: Volume 9 is excellent manga book and I absolutely flew through the reading, gobbling up each wonderful page. I'll bet that Suzuka: Volume10 is just as wonderful. I cannot wait to find out.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.
