Synopsis

After spotting one of the Chosen Eight flying new their new holt, Cutter decides it is time to finally time to do something about Winnowill. He travels to Noona and Adar, the humans that once saved his life. He feels that only they can convince the Hoan G'tay Sho to stop worshiping the evil Winnowill. But when he leaves, Aroree arrives and kidnaps Dewshine's young son with the intention of trading him for her own freedom.

Meanwhile, Rayek and Two-Edge travel toward Blue Mountain with their own purpose. Unbeknownst to Cutter, Winnowill convinces the Hoan G'tay Sho to kill any of the Wolfriders if they should appear.

Siege at Blue Mountain is a collection of the first set of four comic books in the Elfquest: Siege at Blue Mountain mini-series (numbers 1 through 4) written by Wendy and Richard Pini and illustrated by Wendy Pini. Although the original comics were released in black and white, these pages have been colored to add enhancement to  Wendy Pini's detailed artwork.

Elfquest is both excellently told and drawn with exquisite beauty. Wendy Pini is a very talented artist and really can take the reader deep into the story with the masterful stoke of her pencil. At the end of the book are the front covers for Warp Graphics comics, seven beautifully colored portraits, six exquisitely drawn plates in incredible detail, and an eight page short story written by Wendy & Richard Pini, penciled by Debbie Hayes and inked by Paul Abrams. It tells the story of how Redmark earned his new name and became Redlance.

Review

Siege at Blue Mountain takes place shortly after the end of Quest's End. Once again, Wendy and Richard Pini do an admirable job of transporting the reader back to the world of the Elves.

This time, the evil queen is back in the form of Winnowill. I enjoyed having Winnowill return, as she is a character that you love to hate. There is not one good thing about this malicious female elf, except for her looks.

The only thing I was disappointed in was that this book was only four comics long, instead of the usually five that the first three collection are and the six in the fourth collection.

Still, Siege at Blue Mountain is worth reading if you really love these characters, as many do.

I rated this book an 8½ out of 10.
