Synopsis

Scientific Progress Goes "Boink" by Bill Watterson is a collection of Calvin and Hobbes comic strips.

This collection contains the following storylines: Moe Steals Calvin's Toy Truck, Rosalyn Locked Out, Stupendous Man Fries the School, Bat Aren't Bugs, Personal Gravity Polarity Reversed, The Duplicator, Tracer Bullet: Private Eye, Roselyn vs. Stupendous Man, Baseball and Calvin Don't Mix, Spaceman Spiff Takes on Subtraction, and Time Machine: Back to the Jurassic Age.

Calvin and Hobbes became very popular in the mid-1980's, and continued into the 1990's, until Bill Watterson decided that he was going to retire the comic strip. It was seen daily in hundred of newspapers and enjoyed by millions. Calvin is a quirky 6 years old boy who has a pet stuffed animal tiger names Hobbes. But to Calvin, Hobbes is alive. Together, they constantly get into mischief. Hobbes often acts as Calvin’s conscious, but being a tiger, he also acts upon his whims. Calvin’s parents can also be quite funny. Calvin always seems to be testing his mother. And Calvin’s father’s explanations of how things work are always hilarious. And then there is Calvin’s arch nemesis, Susie. Usually innocent of all wrongdoing, Calvin loves to harass her. But she always beats Calvin in the end.

Review

Bill Watterson does it again with another Calvin & Hobbes collection: Scientific Progress Goes "Boink". Calvin is the kid that we love as another person's child and just pray that we never have one like him. Would he make life interesting? Oh, yes . . . more so than any one of us wants. And Hobbes is a treasure with his wisdom, yet we know he is also just another side of Calvin; sometime rational, sometime animalistic.

This entire book is a smile-fest. Calvin & Hobbes just makes me laugh, which is the main reason I read the strips. Some of my favorite strips are when Calvin's father explains life to him. His father loves to give Calvin the most far-fetched stories about science and life that make me just loose it. I love it!

So, if you are looking for a fun time in reading, pick up a copy of Scientific Progress Goes "Boink" by Bill Watterson and get ready for a rumbly, tumbly good time.
