 Synopsis

After many years of war, the Emperor signed the Thin Ice Treaty and the war between the Empire and the Republic of Frost had finally ended. Three years have passed and the effort to clean up and rebuild after the war continues. During the war, Corporal Randel Oland was part of the 901 ATT (Anti-Tank Troopers), which was one of the Invisible 9 groups. Now, he has joined the Imperial Army State Section III, aka Pumpkin Scissors to help with war reconstruction.

Viscount Wolkins's tank is discovered to be from the Republic of Frost and has some advancements that the Empire doesn't have. The tank has a cannon automatic loading system and the Empire would like to know how it works. They take the blueprints to Professor Colt, a man's whose research and development has given him the title Great Father of Tanks. While they are visiting the professor, Machs notices a picture on the wall of the gun that Randel uses. It is an A-T 13mm D.K., otherwise known as the Door Knocker, thus called because you have to be knocking on the door of a tank for it to penetrate the steel. When the group returns to headquarters to dismantle the tank, they are attacked and the tank is ruined.

After getting injured in the battle over the tank, Randel ends in the infirmary. The man in the bed next to him has been having some stomach problems. Meanwhile, Mercs has been doing some investigating about 901 ATT, but he is finding little information. He isn't sure whether he can fully trust Randel and wants to know about his past. When the man disappears from his bed, Randel hears that there is a jumper on the roof. Even though he is injured, Radel knows he cannot let this man die. Muze Caplan, Head of the Caplan Institute's Medical Research Department appears at headquarters to do some research on the Invisible Nine.

908 HTT is living in the sewers (also known as the Waterworks) and has been burning people alive with his flamethrower. The homeless have moved down into the sewers because they have nowhere else to live. When Pumpkin Scissors is sent down into the Waterworks to move the homeless to a new farm, they find some employees of Albert Myon, director of the Waterworks, selling drugs to the residents.

Because Pumpkin Scissors keeps arresting his employees for selling drugs, Albert Myon decides to do something about it. He give all of his employees new rifles and sends, Hans, the man in the 908 HTT suit, to go and kill Pumpkin Scissors.

Pumpkin Scissors: Volume 2 is another excellent manga book about a military unit trying to help clean up after a brutal war. In this book, the stories focused more on Randel this time, rather than Lt. Malvin, which I preferred anyway. Randel is a totally cool character that I really want to know more about. He struggles with who he used to be and fights turning on his blue lantern when trouble arises.

As for this Muze Caplan person, I don't quite know who she is yet, but I'll bet she spells trouble for our heroes. I think that she is up to no good. All of the stories in this volume were terrific, and I especially liked when Mercury was hanging off of Randel's sleeve. That made me laugh. The action in the stories is great to and when the 908 HTT was burning people . . . ouch! That looked like it hurt!

The style of the manga is just the thing for this kind of book.  The translation and adaptation from Japanese to English is perfect, which really makes the story flow well.

Overall, I would have to say that Pumpkin Scissors: Volume 2 is another excellent book in this post-war, military manga that I have really come to enjoy. All of the characters are wonderful and fun to learn about, while the bad guys are just that . . . bad. I cannot wait to read the next installment, Pumpkin Scissors: Volume 3, as I bet there is a lot of killing to do to make the world a safer place to live.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.
