It's Hard Work Being Bitter is a collection of Peanuts comic strips written and drawn by Charles M. Schulz. This book includes cartoons from the years 1972 - 1973. These comic strips originally appeared in the smaller paperback books Thompson is in Trouble, Charlie Brown and You're the Guest of Honor, Charlie Brown. All of the comic strips appear in black and white.

This collection contains the following story arcs: Charlie Brown - Camp Troublemaker, Lost in a Tree, Lucy Quits the Baseball Team, Snoopy Plays Football, Thompson is in Trouble, The Six Bunny-Wunnies Freak Out Banned at School Library, Snoopy Helps Woodstock Migrate, No Christmas Presents for Lucy, Banana Nose, Charlie Brown's Testimonial Dinner, The Daisy Hill Puppy Cup, and Rerun Joins the Baseball Team.

On October 2, 1950, Peanuts debuted in seven newspapers and ran until January 3, 2000 when Charles M. Schulz bid a fond farewell to all his readers in the final daily Peanuts newspaper strip. On February 12, 2000, Charles Schulz died on a Saturday evening, of complications from colon cancer in Santa Rosa, CA. He was 77 years old. On February 13, 2000, the final Sunday Peanuts newspaper strip appeared. "Charles M. Schulz (b. 1922) is the most widely syndicated cartoonist in history, with his work appearing in over 2,300 newspapers. He has published more than 1,400 books, won Peabody and Emmy awards for his animated specials, and is responsible for the most-produced musical in the American theatre, entitled "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown". And all this diversity and recognition and continuous success began over 50 years ago." (Illustration House)

Review

It's Hard Work Being Bitter has a lot of stories that I remember. It is interesting . . . I know that Rerun, Lucy and Linus' younger brother is introduced in this book, but what ever happens to him in the future. I don't think he ever became a main character, like both Linus and Sally did, as they both started off as babies.

This collection of Peanuts comic strips is funny and entertaining. Franklin appears in some of the strips, and Peppermint Patty and Marcie play more important rolls. And Snoopy's pal, Woodstock, is also in a lot of the strips, but I never really liked him much. After all, I could never understand a word he said.

Overall, It's Hard Work Being Bitter is another wonderful collection of Peanuts comic strips that made me laugh out loud a few times and always brought a smile to my lips as I was reading about the Peanuts gang. This is good stuff. Thanks you, Charles M. Schulz for making me laugh.
