Synopsis

Garfield Tips the Scales is the eighth collection of Garfield comic strips. All of the comic strips appear in black and white. A one-page special appears at the beginning of the book about "Garfield's 10 All-Time Favorite Bad Cat Jokes." The last page shows that the shocking truth has finally been revealed. The major comic character of Garfield the Cat has been replaced by a machine. It is a schematic of Robot Garfield. The rest of the 124 pages consist of either two daily comics per page or one Sunday comic. Most of the strips are single shots, but a few storylines appears.

This collection contains the following storylines: Mondays, The Caped Avenger, Nermal, Visiting the Farm, Garfield's Laws, The Mouse, Diet Time, Christmas, Pooky Looses an Arm, Nermal Returns, Watching TV with Jon, The Sweater, and Fake Mustache.

This book contains comic strips from 8/16/1982 through 3/20/1983.

Garfield Tips the Scales by Jim Davis is a collection of Garfield comic strips. Garfield became very popular in the late-1970s and continues on today, although the character now looks a little different. It is seen daily in thousands of newspapers and enjoyed by millions worldwide. Garfield is a quirky cat that is quite fat, lazy and loves his lasagna. He loves to pick on Odie, the dog, and give Jon, his owner, a hard time. He hates diets and loves food...any type of food, especially lasagna.

Review

As Garfield became more and more famous, I found that the humor in the comic strips was just not a funny as it used to be. Sure, there are a couple of strips in this book that made me smile, and a lot of them do keep me entertained, but several of them don't cause me to react at all. I find that I really enjoy the earlier Garfield before he became too predictable with his constant, "I Hate Mondays" routine.

Overall, Garfield Tips the Scales is worth your time, but not as much as the earlier collections.
