A one-page strip appears at the beginning of the book showing how to draw Garfield. The last page contains Questions and Answers in "Garfield: Up Close and Personal." The other 124 pages consist of either two daily comics per page or one Sunday comic. Most of the strips are single shots, but a few storylines appears.

This collection contains the following storylines: Nermal, National Fat Week, Liz the Veterinarian, Bath Time, Going on Vacation, Nermal Returns, The Window Blind, Garfield Catches a Cold, To the Farm, Nermal Returns...Again, Garfield Goes on a Diet, and Cat Show.

This book contains comic strips from 8/27/1979 through 3/30/1980.

Garfield: Bigger Than Life by Jim Davis is a collection of Garfield comic strips. Garfield became very popular in the late-1970s and continues on today, although the character now looks a little different. It is seen daily in thousands of newspapers and enjoyed by millions worldwide. Garfield is a quirky cat that is quite fat, lazy and loves his lasagna. He loves to pick on Odie, the dog, and give Jon a hard time. He hates diets and loves food...any type of food.

Review

I used to really like Garfield when he first hit the newspapers as a comic strip. I thought that this cat and all the trouble he gets into was very funny a . . . and this book contains that humor.

Later, Jim Davis changed the looks of all the characters by changing their eyes from circles to ovals and then exaggerated that look and squished the eyes together. The humor seems to not be quite as funny when the eyes when oval, at least in my opinion.

Garfield: Bigger Than Life book contains comic strips with the round eyes, so these are the ones I really find enjoyable. If you are looking for an early version of the Garfield comic strip, this is a book that you should pick up.
