Synopsis

Kaby Melon has hired Lucy and Natsu to retrieve a special book and destroy it for two million jewels from Duke Everlue. In Duke Everlue's mansion, he has a group of fairly ugly maids that he uses for protection. Lucy tries to get hired on, but he says that she is too ugly. Duke Everlue himself looks like a strange version of Tweedle Dee, or Tweedle Dum, from Alice in Wonderland and his mustache appears to grow out of his nostrils. He thinks ugly women are pretty and pretty women are ugly. Weird, huh? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So, Lucy and Natsu sneak into the mansion and are discovered by the homely maids, who attack them. Defeating the maids, they make there way to the library where they find the book entitled Daybreak, which was written by Kaby Melon. That is when Duke Everlue attacks. He calls for reinforcements, which are the Vanish Brothers, members of the the Southern Wolf bodyguard guild.

Later, Ezra Scarlet returns to the Fairy Tail guild. Everyone, and I mean everyone, seems to be afraid of this armor-wearing wizard, especially Loke and Gray Fullbuster. She has heard some disturbing rumors about Eisenwald guild, which should have disbanded because the council put a stop to them. They had been performing assassinations for people who pay them. They were expelled from the League six years ago and are now considered a dark guild. Their leader is the Death God, Erigor, and he is after a Lullaby flute. When a Lullaby flute is played, it uses death magic to kill anyone that hears the music. Ezra tells Gray and Natsu, who are quite the rivals themselves because Natsu's magic is based on fire while Gray's magic is based on ice, that they will be accompanying her on this mission. Mira asks Lucy is she will tag along and keep and eye on the two boys to help them avoid their constant fighting.

On the train, Natsu has motion sickness. When they arrive at their destination, they all disembark from the train, but forget about Natsu. When Natsu awakens, still sick because the train is moving again, and a member of the Eisenwald guild is sitting across from him. Before he knows what is going one, they guy's shadow attacks Natsu.

Review

Wizards and magic, oh how I love them. Fairy Tail: Volume 2 is full of spells, wizards, and plenty of battles. The Death God, Erigor, looks really cool and I look forward to Natsu fighting him.

What I do enjoy about Fairy Tail is the constant bantering of the main characters. The argument that Natsu and Gray get into a really funny. As for Gray always showing up in his boxers and nothing else, that is just plain weird, but humorous too. We all know that everyone fears Ezra, but we really don't learn why in this book. I hope that is revealed soon.

As for the storyline, it is excellent and the artwork is wonderful, although I still don't really like all the goofy faces the characters make when they are shocked. Still, Fairy Tail is one of the better manga series out there and it is filled with enough adventure to satisfy even the most action-craving readers out there.

The translation and adaptation by William Flanagan could have been better. This guy just kills me. He must not be from America, because his English doesn't flow very well, or Del Rey ties his hands behind his back and tells him that the translation must be an exactly from Japanese. To me, this is the one thing that hurts Japanese manga books.

Overall, Fairy Tail: Volume 2 is another excellent story which has made this series get off to a promising start. I cannot wait to see what happens with the Eisenwald guild in Fairy Tail: Volume 3. That should be a lot of fun.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.
