Synopsis

The Days Are Just Packed by Bill Watterson is a collection of Calvin and Hobbes comic strips.

This collection contains the following storylines: G.R.O.S.S., Astrology, Chewing Gum, 6:30 - 7:30 & 8:30 Calvins, Fine Art, and Monsters Under the Bed.

Calvin and Hobbes became very popular in the mid-1980's, and continued into the 1990's, until Bill Watterson decided that he was going to retire the comic strip. It was seen daily in hundred of newspapers and enjoyed by millions. Calvin is a quirky 6 years old boy who has a pet stuffed animal tiger names Hobbes. But to Calvin, Hobbes is alive. Together, they constantly get into mischief. Hobbes often acts as Calvin’s conscious, but being a tiger, he also acts upon his whims. Calvin’s parents can also be quite funny. Calvin always seems to be testing his mother. And Calvin’s father’s explanations of how things work are always hilarious. And then there is Calvin’s arch nemesis, Susie. Usually innocent of all wrongdoing, Calvin loves to harass her. But she always beats Calvin in the end.

Review

Calvin & Hobbes is the funniest comic strip ever created and Calvin wins the prize for making more people laugh than anyone else. Kids love him, teenagers love him, and adults love him, mostly because Calvin isn't their own kid. Any way you look at it, everybody loves this kid that makes Dennis the Menace look like Ziggy.

I was pleasantly pleased with the comic in this book because I missed them when they originally came out in the newspaper. The only thing I would have wished for is more long storylines. The best one is when Calvin is avoiding doing his homework at 6:30 PM, so he goes into the future two hours to get the work from his 8:30 version at bed time, who of course hasn't done it either. Then both of them go back one hour and meet his 7:30 Calvin, who, of course, is reading his comic book and hasn't done the work. Hilarious! Bill Watterson is a genius.

So, if you like to laugh, pick up a copy of The Days Are Just Packed. You will love it.
