Synopsis

The war between the Iga clan and the Kouga clan is in full swing. Fourteen of the twenty combatants are dead, and it looks like everyone else is soon to follow. In Yoshida Village,  Saemon, still disguised at Tenzen, enters the villagers and is attacked. Akeginu tells them to stop attacking him as she thinks he is Tenzen. He informs Akeginu that her lover, Koshirou, was murdered by Kagerou and she vows to kill Kagerou.

They meet Kagerou on Imure Bridge and Akeginu attacks, only to find herself in a trap set by Kagerou and Saemon. Saemon does not know that Tenzen is not dead anymore. His body heals itself as he is rumored to be immortal. Soon after, Saemon meets the Oboro party while still on the bridge, but does not know that they are led by Tenzen. Kagerou makes it to Hamamatsu Village when Tenzen enters the room she is in. At first she thinks it is Saemon, but soon comes to realize that it really is Tenzen as he rapes her.

She is soon attacked by the villagers, tied up and brought before Oboro. Killing some guards, she soon escapes but is captured by Tenzen and tied to a post in Fujieda Village in an abandoned temple. Gennosuke hears of the challenge that Tenzen posted and goes to rescue Kagerou. After the battle, Oboro and Gennosuke meet for the first time since this whole war started.

Review

Unfortunately, this is the last book in the Basilisk series. Basilisk: Volume 5 is the conclusion to a spectacular manga series that I will always treasure.

The artwork is awesome and the story is highly interesting (even though it is nearly impossible to remember everyone's name and which clan they were from.) There was a lot of blood throughout the series as most of the battle are fought with swords. There is also quite a bit of nudity. Both reasons lend the rating of Mature Content to this series.

With having read the final showdown between the Iga clan and the Kouga clan, I feel quite bummed, but thrilled at the same time. But I know that I will read this series over again and again, so no worries there.

Overall, as a series, Basilisk is a stupendous series and I rated all books a 10 out of 10.

As for Basilisk: Volume 5, what more can I say that I already haven't? So, if you are looking for a thrill ride, pick up all 5 books of the Basilisk series. These are ones you don't want to miss.

I rated this book a 10 out of 10.
