On Planet Nincompoopia

Daffy felt a tap on his shoulder. "What, Porky?" he asked, watching the robot trip over a rock in the distance. He felt another tap. "What?" he said again.

Porky still didn't answer, because Porky wasn't tapping his shoulder--a big vine was. Porky was hanging upside down, wrapped in a vine. The vine covered Porky's mouth and looked like it was squeezing him like a grape.

Suddenly the vine wrapped itself around Daffy. "Not so tight, Mac," he complained. "I'm not a tube of toothpaste."

The vine didn't stop squeezing.

Daffy struggled, but he couldn't get away. "Listen, Plant," he muttered. "You're making a big mistake squeezing me. Come with me to Hollywood. I'll introduce you to all the movie stars."

The plant stopped squeezing. It snaked out a long vine and twisted it to form a word. The vine spelled out . . .

B U G S   B U N N Y

Daffy stared at the vine. His beak started to twitch. His feet started to shake. "I'm not going to get angry," he whispered. "I'm not going to get angry."

Meanwhile, the plant spelled out . . .

EVERYBODY LOVES  B U G S   B U N N Y

Steam exploded out of Daffy's ears, and he burst out of the vine. "I AM NOT GOING TO GET ANGRY!" Daffy yelled. The startled plant dropped Porky to the ground.

Review

On the WB Studio Lot, Daffy Duck is fed up with not being treated like the star he thinks he is. When he sees that Porky Pig has an alien pen pal on Nincompoopia, a planet of superior beings, Daffy decides to use the ACME Space Replacer to go to that planet. His goal is for Nincompoopians to admire him. When they appear on the strange planet, Daffy and Porky learn that every one of these lightbulb-headed aliens loves to go bowling. Unfortunately, one of the aliens has a pet that looks like a bowling ball and Daffy heaves it down a bowling lane and destroys a bowling pin statue. Running away toward the return point, Daffy and Porky are chased down by a robotic hunter. His job is to take them off to jail so they can be turned into Nincompoopian pancakes in the morning. Not wanting this to happen, Daffy and Porky remain on the run and can only hope that they will make it to Lane 6 at the Bowl-O-Rama so they can return home before the time expires.

Alien Alley: Bowled Over on Planet Nincompoopia is a book in the Looney Tunes Wacky Adventures series put out by Warner Bros. This book was written by Pam Pollack & Meg Belviso and illustrated by Duendes del Sur. This series is intended for young readers aged 7 to 9.

Daffy Duck and Porky Pig get to travel to another planet. How cool is that? I mean, who wouldn't want to go to another planet and meet some aliens? I know I do. Pam Pollack and Meg Belviso weave a tale of action and comedy starring Daffy and Porky. In this story, they have to avoid being eaten by hungry plants, shot by a robotic hunter, dumped into garbage bin, and try not to crash into a fruit stand on a hover scooter. The artwork by Duendes del Sur is wonderful, I just wish it was in color, not black and white. Overall, Alien Alley: Bowled Over on Planet Nincompoopia is fun story with our favorite angry duck and stuttering pig. Kids should really like reading this one.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.
